How to Prep Road Trip Food:

One of the best ways to save money on a family vacation is on your road trip food.

If you have the time to prep all of your meals and snacks at home before you leave as opposed to simply picking up a bunch of pre-made items, you will save tons of money.

Top 3 Road Trip Food Prep Tips:

  1. Chop and/or cut everything ahead of time! This goes for fruits, veggies, and even sandwiches. You do not want to be trying to accomplish this while riding down the interstate- I promise!
  2. Portion out deli meats and other items for assembling sandwiches on the road
  3. Package as much individually as possible. This cuts down on confusion, arguments and mess. Every time!

How to Pack Road Trip Food:

Just like prepping road trip food, learning how to pack road trip food in an organized manner is super important. You can greatly reduce your stress level while on the road if you pack strategically.

Top 4 Road Trip Food Packing Tips:

  1. Organize the food by cold items versus room temperature items. If you pack it accordingly, you will save yourself a lot of headache on the road.
  2. Pack food strategically by meal. Be sure to include all of the condiments or “extras” that go along with each meal item so you aren’t stuck eating a dry turkey sandwich because the mayo and mustard are packed away in the back of the vehicle.
  3. If your family members have individual preferences on each meal, go ahead and pack meals for each rider and label with specific names.
  4. Use a quality cooler to ensure your cold items stay cold and don’t spoil before you can get to them.
